Another superb weekend for Celbridge AC at the National Indoor championships in Athlone yesterday. John Grant took home Gold in the Boys Under 18 60m sprint running 7.21 seconds to become Leinster champion, with Nathan Parameswaran running an excellent 5th in the final. Hannah Aspell continued her impressive early form this year capturing the Gold in the Girls Under 17 60m sprint running 8 seconds flat to become Leinster champion. Nathan Parameswaran won Gold in the Boys Under 18 400m with a powerful finish pipping Fintan Howard of Naas AC, well done Nathan. Steven Oyinlola was 4th in the final of the Under 19 6m sprint and qualifies for nationals as a result of this strong run
More success for Sandra's race walking team with a number of medal winners yesterday;
- Rhea Donnelly won Gold in the Under 15 girls 1k walk, building on her Gold in the Kildare championships a couple of weeks ago
- Leah Murphy won Gold in the Under 16 girls 1.5k walk, adding another medal to an ever impressive career in race walking
- Rebecca Carroll won Silver in the Under 17 girls 1.5k walk
- Niamh O’Connor won Gold in the Girls Under 19 1.5k walk, followed home by club mate Anna Bourke who took Silver
- Niamh also took home Gold in the Junior 3k walks breaking the Leinster record in 14:30:25 and once again followed home by Anna Bourke in 2nd in 15:24:23
- Sinead O’Connor took home Silver in the Senior Women 3k walk
We had a number of Juvenile competitors running in the Under 12 and 13 60m sprints with good runs from Kristian Silava, Zara Newman, Ava Connors, Abbie Murphy, Rachel Kearns, Laragh Martin, Niamh O'Sullivan, Emma Wallace & a very impressive run from Micahela Turley.
Another standout performance this weekend came from the machine McCarthy, Shane McCarthy, who competed in the Donadea Ultra Marathon 50k, and breaking 4 hours, savage running in the not so sunny conditions, well done Shane.
Superb achievement in Galway today at the National Intermediate Cross Country Championships. The Celbridge team of David O'Connor, Barry Murphy, Stephen Conroy, Garry Cribbin, Ian McManus, Conor Burke and Philip Niland came 2nd claiming silver along with winning the all Ireland County title for Kildare.
Tough muddy conditions didn't pose any difficulties to a team that have put huge effort in training specifically for Cross Country over many months and were duly awarded today.. well done team Celbridge AC and to coach Derek McConnon..
