On what was a terrible morning in terms of weather, it was brightened up as our brilliant team of athletes flew the blue and white flag very high in the gusts of wind and rain this morning, Sunday 4th October.
The ladies were first up with a very strong showing once again. Sinead O’Connor ran a blinder finishing in 9th position overall leading home the ladies to a 4th place team result in the Novices group with Eavann, Laura and Claire.
Teresa, Sandra and Katie just missed out on team bronze in the masters group finishing 4th, while Michelle and Esther ran a great 13:45 and 13:48 respectively. Andrea and Bernie also ran PB’s on a ruthless morning of racing.
Next up was the men, and a strong outing from Garry, Ian and Barry proved the best Masters team performance of the day as the lads took home Gold.
A number of lads ran there first cross country race of there illustrious running careers as John, Derek T, Eoin and Colm broke there duck in the wind and rain, all claiming PB’s.
Derek G, Dave and James ran blinders breaking 15 mins, while Pedro, Frank and Tom once again proved why McConnon’s troops are amongst the strongest around.
Next up was the girls under 10s, and the 6 girls all ran under 4 mins for the 800m of torture leaving coach Derek G beaming with pride in the stands.
Zach was the loan ranger in the boys 10s finishing in a very respectable 22nd overall.
Andrea’s 5 heroes stepped up for the girls under 12s 1.5k and once again they didn’t disappoint, with Katie missing out on an individual bronze by 1 place finishing 4th, while her partners in crime all ran PB’s with Isabelle, Elba, Chloe and Holly all doing there coaches extremely proud.
The under 14 boys stepped up to the line in torrential rain with 7 boys taking on the 2.5k trip.
With the St Cocas and Naas athletes taking it on early doors, the Celbridge boys sat in behind and slowly picked athletes off during the final lap. Daniel and Adam were both involved in a thrilling finish taking 2nd and 4th overall, with Cillian and Luke running stormers to finish 11th and 12th helping the boys to team silver, with Noel, Evan and Jay not far behind them, a brilliant team performance from the lads.
