On what was meant to be the worst day of the weekend, weather wise, Boyle in Co. Roscommon was anything but.. it was mild with sunshine. Its a pity the cross country course was not as good. It was so wet and muddy that it resembled a paddy field in places. But that did not stop our u17 boys performing well! Aiden Moloney and Conor Burke finished a very competitive race in 6th and 7th place respectively and gained individual medals. They were followed closely home by Eoin Moore and Dylan Behan who as a team won the silver medals. This was a great day out for the lads and richly deserved.
Shauna Minnock also competed in the u13 girls race and was running for the County. Unfortunately, only 5 girls turned up, had they have had a 6th runner they would have claimed the bronze medal.!

Sandra Lawler once again showed her skill in winning the National junior women’s 60m Hurdles in Nenagh on Saturday in a time of 8.88 seconds. This was a great win and will stand to her when she competes in the Oddessy Arena in Belfast in two weeks. Sandra also competed in the 60m sprint and just missed out on a medal when she came 4th. Report
New sprint sensation to our club Seye O’Gunlewe ran his first race for the club, the 60m and ran a very impressive time of 7.39 seconds which qualified him for the final. He also took part in the 200m and ran another very impressive 23.68 seconds to also qualify for the final. Seye looks certain to be challanging for a medal when he competes in his own age group, u19 at the end of February.
Darragh McGee, Paul Brady and David Campbell also competed on the day and performed very well.

Four of our athletes travelled to Nenagh last Sunday to compete in the National Combined Championships. Shauna Minnock and Christine Campion competed in the girls u14 event in what was a very tough competition and came 7th and 8th respectively after all the points were added up for each event. There were 21 girls in this event! This is a very demanding competition where the girls had to compete in the 60m hurdles, shot putt, high jump, long jump and 800m.
Vivian Fleischer took part in the girls u16 competition and also did very well to finish in 13th place out of 19 athletes. Vivian has another year in this age group!
Darragh McGee competed in the boys u18 in what was a very closely contested competition finishing in 11th position overall.
These athletes have gained a lot of experience from taking part in this and it will show when they compete in the Leinster Indoor championships at the end of February. Well done everyone.

After his recent success in Munster Kieron Stout returned to Nenagh to compete in the National Masters championships. Kieron’s first event was the 60m in which he won the silver medal in a great time of 8.25 but it was such a tight finish that in the fight for the line Kieron overbalanced and crashed to the track resulting in a nasty cut to his shoulder, arm and leg. This would be enough to finish even the most dedicated of us but not Kieron … he went on to compete in his favourite event the shot put and won the gold medal with a throw of 11.95m. This was an amazing achievement. RESULTS
Derek McConnon also competed in these championships in the walk and also did us proud by taking the silver medal. Derek trains our middle distance athletes but still competes for his old club Rathfarnham. Congratulations to both men.
Kieron competes next in the Leinster senior and masters events again in Nenagh on 1st Feb
