u13 -u19 National Championships

July 7th, 2008

Saturday and Sunday 5/6 July saw the first two days of the juvenile All Ireland Championships in Antrim.  Only a handful of athletes travelled to Antrim to compete on one of the wettest weekends.  But the athletes who did compete did extremely well.

Sandra Lawler competed in the 100m hurdles u19 and won the gold medal. This is the last year for Sandra in these championships but she has won her fair share of medals over the years.   Christine Campion seems to be following in Sandra’s footsteps as she ran a great race in the girls u13 80m hurdles to take the silver medal.  This is Christine’s first medal at these championships and not the last I am sure!

Sinead Lawler was unlucky in the girls u16 hurdles to take a tumble but with true grit got up and completed the race.  Aoife Sheehy also competed in the u18 walk and finished 5th, unlucky to be outside the medals.  Emily Longworth also competed in the girls u18 hurdles and finished 8th.  Ronan Power took part in the u16 100m and High Jump but was outside the medal positions.  Siobhan Brady in her first National Championships competed in the discus and threw a PB to finish in 9th place.  Vivian Fleischer competed in the u14 long jump and finished 10th. Brian Moore competed in the u14 javelin and with a PB throw also finished 9th.  Shauna Minnock new to the javelin took 6th position with a PB beating two girls who beat her in the Leinsters.  She also took part in the High Jump but was outside the medal positions.  Aiden Moloney competed in the 800m boys u17 in a very fast race, he finished 11th with a new PB time. Vincent Lam competing in his first National Championships just missed out on a place in the final of the u18 100m.
Day 3 will take place next Sunday 13th in Tullamore and we wish our athletes the best of luck. Aiden Moloney competes in the 1500m and Vincent Lam in the u18 long jump and 200m and David Campbell in the walk and Emily Longworth in the long jump.   Photo day 1   day 2

National Junior and u23 championships

July 5th, 2008

Sandra Lawler took part in the National Junior (u20) championships in Tullamore and came 2nd in the 100m hurdles and 4th in the 100m.  Sandra now competes for Ireland in the World Junior Championships in Poland next week in the 100m hurdles and also the relay.  We wish her all the best, but first she has the u19 nationals in Antrim to win!!

Claire Brady ran magnificantly to take the silver medal in the 100m and 200m.  Claire is running great at the moment and travels to Rimini in Italy to compete next week.

Leinster team competition

July 5th, 2008

Our u13 girls team of Shauna Minnock, Laura Smyth, Christine Campion and Michelle O’Dea took part in the Leinster team competition where all athletes had to compete in 2 events each and their combined score determined where they came.  The girls performed brilliantly and took home the silver medals.  Well done girls
