Last leg of Co. League

June 29th, 2007

The last leg of the league will be held on Sunday 8th July, 2007 in Naas at 2.00p.m.  Same rules apply, wear club colours and 2 euro entry fee.  There will be a small party and results announced afterwards in the centre beside the track for all athletes.

Tailteann Games

The Tailteann games were held in Tullamore last Sunday 24th July. This is a competition where athletes who performed well at provence level at the Kit Kat school championships, compete as a provence against one another. Sandra Lawler was selected to compete in the 100m and the 80m hurdles and relay. Sandra came second in the 100m and first in the 80m hurdles in 11.99 sec. and also first in the relay.  She has now been invited to compete internationally in Newport in Wales at the end of July. Well done Sandra.

Also competing in Tullamore was Aoife Sheehy in the walk. Aoife having taken 1 minute of her PB in the leinsters the week before took another minute off her PB to finish in 7th place. This is a fantastic achievement. Well done Aoife.

Nationals - u10 - u12

On Sunday last, 24th July, 2007 our younger athletes travelled to the Mardyke in Cork to compete in the All Ireland Finals. This event used to be an individual event but this year it changed to a team competition where a combined score of two athletes determined the overall place. Shauna Minnock and Laura Smyth competed in the girls u12 long jump competition where they achieved a combined total of 7.14m and earned them the bronze medal. This is the first National medal that the girls have won and was a great achievement. Congratulations girls!

Brothers Robert and John Clarke competed in the u10 Ball Throw competition where they came a brilliant 6th place with Robert achieving a PB of 32.69m and John still has another year in this competition.

The u12 girls relay team of Christine Campion, Shauna Minnock, Laura Smyth and Eimear McCormack competed in the inter club relay and ran brilliantly to finish 11th. This was a great experience for the girls.

Leinster u13 - u19

June 24th, 2007

The leinster competition took part on a wet Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th June last. We had a lot of athletes taking part and each one of them did us proud. Outstanding performances of the weekend was Sandra Lawler who won four gold medals in the 100m, 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles and achieved a CBP in the long jump. Seadna McGrillen also got gold in the long jump u13 and third in the 600m. Ronan Power also got silver in the High Jump, and bronze in the 80m hurdles and long jump u15. Aoife Sheehy was a double medal winner with silver in the walk and bronze in the 300m. Brian Bottrill got gold in the boys u16 high jump.

Other medal winners were Eoin Moore, 2nd Javelin, Oliver Clarke, 3rd High Jump, Vicky Doyle 3rd Long Jump, Karen Gernan 3rd Walk, Paul Brady 3rd Hurdles.

4th place athletes also qualify for the Nationals. Full results here

Lucan Open Sports

Lucan Harriers will hold their annual open sports at their track (opposite Superquinn) on Wednesday 20th June.  These sports will cater for the u8 - u18 and there will be a full programme with sprints, middle distance and shot and long jump.  Start time 7.00 p.m.  Meet at 6.30.  There is a small fee that must be paid to enter these races.

Co. Hurdles and Javelin

The co. hurdles and javelin will take place on Tuesday next 19th June at our track at Ballymakealy for u13 up.  There will be no training this evening at Salesians because of this.

u13-u19 Leinster Championships

June 13th, 2007

The u13 - u19 Championships will take place this Sunday in Tullamore on Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th June. We wish all our athletes the best of luck.

St. Abbans results

We were very well represented at the u10 - 12 team competition in St. Abbans.  Congratulations to Robert Clarke and Conor Comiskey on coming third overall in the Leinster u10 Ball Throw last week.  Also congratulations to Shauna Minnock and Laura Smyth who also got third place in u12 Long Jump.  These athletes not go on to compete in the Mardyke in Cork in two weeks time in the All Ireland Finals.  We also had  two more medal winners , Alan Carroll and Matthew Dwyer  got  the bronze medals in the  Inter County Relay.  Well done to them .  Click here for results

u9 - u12 Leinster Championships

This weekend the 10th sees our younger athletes compete in a new competition of pairs in the leinster championships.  Each athlete competes with a partner as a team and their score or time is added together to determine the winners.  We wish all our athletes the best of luck in this new competition.

Schools All Ireland Championship

Sandra Lawler continued her winning ways when she took gold in the 80m Hurdles in Tullamore last weekend.  Sandra also took the bronze medal in the 100m and silver for her school in the relay.  Other notable performances were The Salesian boys team who took silver in the relay.  This included Aiden Maloney, Brian Botrill  and David Campbell.  Aoife Sheehy also put up a great performance in the walk taking seventh place and knocking a minute of her previous best time.
