The annual Celbridge 5k lived up to its excellent reputation yesterday with close to 300 participants of all ages taking part on our fast new course. Clubs from all over Leinster were represented.
Donore Harriers proved the dominant force with Mark Dooley winning in a time of 15:30,John Dunne taking 2nd in 15:50 and Sam Allen 3rd in 15:56, an impressive 1,2 and 3 which also saw the Chapelizod club convincingly win the men's team category.
Rachael Smyth from St.Cocas AC was the first woman to finish for the 2nd year in a row in a time of 17:34. In second place was Siobhan O'Flaherty from St.Laurance O'Toole AC in Carlow and was also the winner of the Female Junior category. The 3rd woman was Michele Cox from Newbridge AC. The women's team winners were St. Michaels AC from Portarlington.
In the Junior male category Paul O'Neill was 1st with Celbridge athlete Eoghan Goss 2nd and Jack Fitzgerald 3rd.
Sorcha Moloney was 2nd in the Junior female category with Ruth O'Loughlin 3rd.
Kevin O'Connor was 1st over 40 and Shirley Mitchell from St.Michaels was the first female over 40. Larry Kelly from St.Cocas showed his usual good form by winning the Men's 50 category with Eileen O'Brien from Lucan Harriers winning the women's prize. Conor Burke and Eoin McManus came 7th and 10th keeping the Celbridge flag flying among the lead athletes.
Well done to everyone who took part,supported and volunteered in an event that gets better every year.
